Camping trailers in home driveways

Just read in the Reporter that they are trying to change the ordinance on people parking RVs in their driveways. Seems the county/city only enforces that law if someone complains about it.
It's not an infraction if no one complains I guess, like speeding is not a crime unless someone gives the police officer an address of the speeder.
We have a neighbor that has parked a 30 foot camper in their short driveway and it makes the neighborhood look really trashy. This neighborhood is hanging by a thread in keeping property values up and then this. After they did this then another neighbor parked their huge pontoon in front of their house and another one put a wood paneled trash truck in their drive. When does it all end? My husband and I are nearing 70 and have worked hard to have a nice home in a modest neighborhood and now the value of the home is being brought down by these inconsiderate home owners. Either park the trailers in the back yard or park them in a storage lot.

If the owner of the rv is a homeowner it is right to have whatever he wants in their property..I bet alot of have stuff in our yard that others don't like.Just drive down 9 and I'm sure you can spot a house or two that has an abundance of lawn decorations but,no one is telling them to move or get rid of some of the decorations...If the said rv is not blocking a road or alley then the issue is mute..Why are the neighbours being incosiderate? what is one of the commandments Love thy neighbour....Maybe you should practice what your preaching and be a better neighbour.

Nope

How about I putt up a small garage in my front yard right next door to you and see how you like it. Not sure there is much of a difference between that and parking an RV!

This statute is already on

This statute is already on the books. Someone has decided these issues are problems. Obviously the other contributors have unlicensed vehicles, unleashed dogs or some type of unsightly crap in their yards or they wouldn't be so uncomfortable about someone complaining about neighbors 20 feet from our own home having a trash truck in their driveway. This is OUR problem too!!!

When we wanted to move closer to our children we were told by the realtor that our home decreased $10,000 in value because of the trash truck. We are minding OUR own business. this is our business!!

I personally would pay to have an appraisal done instead of believing your realtor. Realtors are a dime a dozen. They don't even received a dime until the home sells. Just think about this maybe the realtor is trying to get more commission if he/ she sells for more than she/he states its worth. I could be wrong but something to think about. Most people are looking out for themselves not you.

Ok, one if the dog is in their yard as you stated, What the problem? GPD, animal control, and the staues state that the leash law is it the dog is NOT contained in your yard. My little dog does not leave my side. i do not put him on a leash in my yard. And GPD stated from their own mouth that the leash law is if the dog leaves your property (the owner).. So with this your point is moote when it comes to the dogs.

Their is plenty of things you can do in your own property to increase your homes value.Quit blaming others and take some responsibliilty. The economy number is not what it was. Home Values have come down just on this. Are you going to blame all the unemployed because of this? Sounds really ignorant right?!!! If they have unlicensed vehicles that have been there for longer than 31 days call the police to have them removed. I know this is a law Greenfield takes seriously and acts on.( But come on!!)

I own my home. I cannot contol what others do in their property or what they do in their property. I can only take care of what is mine. The economy is so hard right now you would rather see the trash truck removed from their yard, then know that a family is working hard to support themselves and not going hungry. That is really sad. Unfortunatly, people like you are leading this world into be the self centered, crappy entittlement attitudes, and lazy way world. The fact is your neighbor OWES YOU NOTHING. Loose the entittlement attitude.I am really glad you are not my neighbor. I thank God for the awesome neghbors that I have. My husband took sick about 2 yrs ago and went down on the front porch my neighbors came running. They ensured the ambulance was called. And if it was not for them my dear hubby would of died. Sure, some of their yards are "trashy" as you would say. But I would rather have people around that have great moral charecter then worry if they have trashy ways.

Hmmm

I've never seen a comp sheet that has entries to count deductions/additions to sale price based on what kind of vehicles the neighbors have in their driveway.

That's funny, neither have

That's funny, neither have I. People have to make a living, and if using a trashy looking trash truck is the way they have to do it, then they should park it in their driveway. Seems to be the only person with the problem is the original poster. I understand the look of the neighborhood can affect the amount people are willing to pay for a home, but it does not affect PROPERTY VALUE. There is a big difference there. If your realtor is saying that, get a new one cause they don't know what they are talking about and probably aren't any good anyway.

Oh, and I forgot to add. A

Oh, and I forgot to add. A note to the original poster, if you don't like things like that, and want a perfect neighborhood that looks and acts perfect, move to an edition with a homeowner's association. Oh by the way, I know people trying to sell homes in editions with a HOA and ones where there is no HOA. The ones without have sold, the ones with, have to keep lowering their price and still has no interested buyers. Their first response, the place has an HOA. Rules and regulations do not make a neighborhood or town, they break it and make it an unwanted place to live.

I agree with the other

I agree with the other person stating that they should be able to do what they want with their own property. I am currently unable to own a home, but when I do, I absolutely will not buy a home where there is a homeowner's association. If I am going to spend, normally 75 thousand dollars or more of my hard earned money on a home, I want to be able to do what I want with it. If I want to park my RV, which by the way, is several thousand more of my hard earned money, in my driveway I should be able to.

I find paying a yearly fee to a homeowners association so they can tell you what to do is a scam and utterly ridiculous. They have rules concerning how many pets you can have, and yes I do not agree with puppy mills or people hoarding animals, but I know someone who was told that they cannot have 3 shitzus in her 2500 square foot home.

I want to be able to do what I want to my property, as the other person said, providing it does not break the law. As for the comment about speeders and the police. While I do not think the Greenfield Police Department is as ethical as it should be. Speeding is one thing they do take seriously. I see cops either clocking people, having people pulled over, or patrolling specifically looking for speeders. They cannot hit every side street of every neighborhood at all times, but if called and reported several times, they will start watching the area.

Keep YOUR nose out of MY business!

Are we living in Russia? Last I checked, we were not. And I agree, as long as I am the one paying for my property, people can just keep their noses out of my business! The only LEGITIMATE reason for any complaint regarding what someone has in their yard or how they upkeep their home would be in instances where public safety is jeopardized. So, if it ain't hurting you, harming anyone else, or leaking hazardous chemicals onto the ground, keep your mouth shut!

As to HOA's, well I've been there, done that, won't go back. I just shake my head at how rediculous people can be, and HOA's are prime breeding grounds for Nosy Nellies and petty gripes. I pay extra to live out in the sticks, and my house is not a junkyard. I have neighbors that have stuff out, but it doesn't bother me. It's their property, and they can do with it as they please. Besides, my neighbors (the ones with what the original poster would consider "trashy" yards) are the first ones to show up any time someone needs help. They'd give the shirt off their back to help someone else out. I wouldn't trade them or their yards full of trucks, boats, and trailers for all the snobs and perfectly manicured lawns in the world.

Camping trailers

I see this way differently. I feel that I purchase a home and it's property I should be able to park what I want, decorate my home the way I want, and be who I am as long as it does not violate laws. I chose not to buy a home with a neighborhood association because I do not need anyone telling me what color drapes I can hang and so on. I agree with you that a trash truck looks is tacky. People have to make a living. Why should they pay for storage when they have property that THEY pay for. Unless you are the one paying the bill for that home its really none of your business. If your worried about your value improve on what you can improve on in your own yard. There are many neighborhoods that have real problem be thankful this is minor. What if it was a drug dealer that was well known that lived besides you? Wouldn't you rather have this small issue instead of a huge problem?!!!
