Halloween outingsHere a couple of off-beat destinations for this weekend: Friday isn't quite Halloween, but it's still the weekend. Since trying to burn everything for Devil's Night is both dangerous and illegal, why not try -- Pirates vs. Ninjas Roller Derby Yes, local rollergirls take to the rink at Ellenberger Park on Indy's eastside to settle the age-old question of which would come out on top in a fair fight. Lots of action, and a gypsy telling fortunes in the lobby, who could ask for more? Or IndyFringe Halloween Spooktacular featuring live music, vaudeville acts and costume contest, 7:30-11 p.m. at the IndyFringe building on St. Clair near the intersection of Mass Ave. and College, Indianapolis. Stay, or arrive late, and you can see the midnight "shadowcast" of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episode "Once More With Feeling" a/k/a "Buffy: The Musical." See the Buffy cast sing! Sing along yourself, Rocky Horror style! And this part of the evening is free! Or Speaking of the "Rocky Horror Show," the Artists Studio production returns, but this time in a haunted building -- the Atheneum (former home of American Cabaret Theatre) in downtown Indy. Go tonight or Friday at 8 p.m., or Saturday at midnight. Remember, this is the actual live version with real actors, but you can still shout stuff at them (it's encouraged, in fact) and goody-bags will be for sale with items to use and throw (though not at the stage). The show is a little different -- no toast, no banister -- but familiar enough for long-time fans. Meanwhile, at the Arists Studio's stage in Fishers, they have a production of "Clue: The Musical," based on the popular whodunit board game. |
